Words of Wisdom for Young Women

Youth comes with many advantages, including beauty, energy, and innocence. But the teenager has one major flaw: a lack of wisdom, the kind gained only from experience.

As a woman in her thirties, I had learned so much that I wish I knew when I was younger. So ladies, listen up as I share some thirtysomething wisdom.

  1. Don’t be afraid to be alone.

I’m not going to tell you how to handle your relationships. But I will tell you this - don’t be afraid to be alone. Being with someone who isn’t right for you, just because you want to be with someone, is a waste of time and energy.

It could be preventing you from finding Mr. Right, or, more importantly, it can prevent you from genuinely finding you. Learn to be comfortable with just being you, and the right relationship will come.

  1. Have your own money.

Rampant emotions (and hormones) can lead you astray. For your safety, make sure you always have your own money. Ensure that you will never be stuck in a situation you don’t want to be in.

  1. Stop caring about what other people think.

To be honest, most people battle this all their lives. The sooner you face the challenge of caring less about what other people think and caring more about what you think, the better off your psyche will be.

What you need to realize is that most people are too busy with their own lives and problems to pay as much attention to you and your shortcomings as you think they do. So cut yourself some slack and get over it!

  1. Get your education NOW!

Education is a must, especially for young women. Get an education. More importantly, do it now, while you are young. Do it before you have a mortgage to pay every month and kids to spend time with. It is much easier to be a poor college student in your twenties than to try and do it again later in life.

  1. Give yourself a chance to fail.

When you take chances, you will be amazed by what you can accomplish. What’s the worst that can happen - you fail? Oh well. But better yet, what’s the best thing that can happen? You could have success, gain great experience and learn a lot about your self.

I don’t have all the answers since I am pretty sure I just started learning. But I do know from my own experience that these words of advice are correct and will give you strength and direction for years to come.
